Information design: Similar to graphic design, but without the “telling lies” part. It draws from typography, mapmaking, statistical graphics, and journalism, with the goal of communicating complexity clearly without misleading or ‘dumbing down’.

Who am I?

Mike Dickison (my résumé). I started in museums and journalism, have taught typography and design since the mid ’90s, and studied giant flightless birds for my PhD. I’m writing a book and a website of practical information design tips for scholars, called Pictures of Numbers.
